Relay Bypass

The main benefit of a relay bypass system is it's reliability and durability. The parts are mechanically much simpler, and are rated for many more cycles than a standard mechanical 3PDT foot-switch. A relay bypass system costs more to manufacture, but we feel it's a superior system and worth that cost.


The relay is a mechanical switch, but instead of using foot pressure to change positions, it uses an electric pulse through a coil connected to the contacts to change positions. The momentary foot-switch is connected to a micro controller, which is programmed to send out the electric pulses to alternating sides of the relay coil with each press of the switch. So to the user, the relay true bypass functions just the same as a traditional foot-switch. The signal path is still routed entirely through mechanical contacts. In fact, the high quality contacts and precise switching action of a small signal relay usually make for a quieter switching action than a traditional foot-switch, with a much less pronounced “pop”. A couple differences the user might notice are: First, a faint click inside the pedal when using the foots-witch......this is the relay changing positions. Second, when powered up, the pedal defaults to the bypassed

....this is an intentional part of the program that is contained on the micro controller.









Before contacting us about a problem, be sure to check the following items, as these are much more likely to be the culprit than the pedal:


Guitar/patch cables: Try changing with know good cables.


Power Supply: If you are running on a battery, replace the battery or try an external power supply.If you are using an external power supply, try a battery.


Ground Loops:  Plenty of info online, much too involved to describe here.


Guitar/Amp: If possible try the pedal alone in the signal chain, and with different guitar and amp if possible.


In/Out jacks: Use a residue free electrical parts cleaner and carefully clean the tip contacts of the signal jacks, and cable plugs. Dirty plugs/jacks is actually a very common source of noise, crackling, and signal dropout.


Intereference: Shut off nearby electronics/electrical devices. Computers, flourescent lights, appliances, etc..... can all induce noise into audio electronics.
